He was from a 2nd generation U.S. immigrant farmworker family. He was a battalion champion boxer in the U.S. Army. He became a legendary Spanish speaking evangelist preacher in South Texas. This is the story of Adrian Moroles as told by his son Adrian Jr. It is also the story of growing up of Mexican descent in South Texas during 50's, 60's, and moving to Northwest U.S.A. As told by his son, his death became legendary but that, like a world championship, was his greatest victory. As he retells history Adrian's story will make you laugh, cry and reconsider Columbus Day in favor of Indigenous People's Day.

Adrian, I was very impressed with your book. I was especially moved by your caring depiction of your father as your dad, role model, and preacher. It was abundantly
clear to me how he impacted you deeply until his very last breath on earth. He was certainly a very impressive human being.

Having had the privilege of experiencing some of my college years with you at the UofW it was great to revisit some of the important times of the era especially the occupation of the building which would later become El Centro De La Raza. The last time I visited there I got a personal tour by Roberto Maestas. It was great to see him. Your book also brought back memories of Chicano House at Lander Hall (Dorm), and special people such as Sam Martinez, Elda Cisneros, Ruben Sierra, as well as the Farmworkers grape boycott, and El Teatro Del Piojo. In addition, of special interest to me is the great work Rojelio Riojas has done with SEAMAR. You of course have also played an important role in its success.

Finally, I appreciated your frankness and clarity regarding your personal growth as you traversed the paths between the U.S/Mexican Border, the Air Force Academy, completion of, your Masters Degree, and most importantly maintaining your lasting commitment to helping others.

I highly recommend your great book to others. I hope you sell a whole bunch. Ep

Well Adrian, I just finished reading your book, a book I was going to read in a couple of days from now but couldn't put down after reading the first page. So many similarities in our lives. I hadn't heard the term "Borracheras" meaning the sickness, my Mom used to have them from her high blood pressure. The UFW struggle, us (Little Joe, Johnny y La Familia) meeting and performing for Cesar Chavez fund raisers, Roberto Maestas and all his and your defiance to an unjust system, I am a Rebel at heart! Even the similarity of me and my wife to be Pat going to Texas in 1974 in her 1970 grey bug/Volkswagen, we had it so packed the only space available were the seats we sat in. And then to find my picture in the book just made me feel so honored, Gracias Carnal!! There is so much information on how La Vida was and is for our Raza, yet in spite of all the hardships, it is out weighted by pure and simple Love, a love of life and family and of course most important, of God the Great Spirit. Thank you for sharing your life with me, and may God continue to bless you y tu familia. Paz, Johnny C/S

I highly recommend you purchase and read the book SON of FARM WORKER PREACHER MAN by my good friend Adrian Morales Jr. It is about our people, La Raza and our struggles due to an unjust system, yet overcoming all the obstacles and succeeding in life. It's about my people, the cotton pickers.

This is a wonderful book that shows how we can be inspired and motivated in life by the very special people in our immediate family. They can deeply inspire, those so importantly needed things, like our religious and cultural values. Sometimes we take these things for granted early in life, which is sad. I really love the way Adrian Jr. valued and respected his father Adrian Sr.’s religious teachings and "consejos" (advice) which, all along and in the end, are the real things that motivated him and helped him succeed. I can also relate so much to the part about how his mom’s tamales were the best and that they would bring the family together to experience valuable, cultural traditions!

The author, Adrian Moroles, also reminded me of the discrimination and hardships that the Latino people also faced in the history of our country. I, personally, can relate to your experiences in Texas and Washington. I’m glad you took the time to share your family’s history, so that we can learn from it. It’s incredible how hard many families worked and how much traveling they had to do! The part about where kids or educators were just not allowed to use Spanish really bothers me! This book needs to be read and discussed in today's classrooms.

I appreciate what you did for our farm workers in supporting Cesar Chavez’s efforts and helping Sea Mar (a comprehensive health and human services health center in Washington State) become what it is today! Your book helped me relive the very important and interesting goings on in the 70’s and all over the country in the subject of human rights. It also reminded me of the sacrifices that were made (that should not be forgotten) to improve the dignity and rights of people. Good job, Adrian, and thank you!
The history of the US is the sum of the history of it's Peoples. In "Son of Farmer Worker Preacher Man", Mr Morales manages to capture a small slice of his family's heritage, the essence of growing up Latino in the America of the 60's and 70's. How well we remember these histories will directly influence our country's future. Mahalo.
